Water ran out. The pipes were dry.
There was no telling whether
The faucet was close or open.
Just tightly turned clockwise or counter-
Clockwise. I still live there, waiting
For random rations or rain. Fooling myself
Of this impermanence. The plumbing
Brittle: from moss to dust to decay. I stay
And rot as the dirt engulf me. On lucky days,
I bathe. At my luckiest, I am clean,
And at my lowest, I write.

If Hokusai Depicted the Shore
I wrote a poem inspired by an artwork at Singapore’s ArtScience Museum.
If Hokusai Depicted the Shore
I found that things do not stagnate
Always inching towards flourishing
Or decaying. Maybe enchanted
By the ocean or engulfed by the flood.
It is water in essence yet functionally
Different. I’ll fixate on this: Could they carry
A drowning man’s struggle for the surface
To the nearest shore? Please send
Help – someone help him float – hope
That it gets to the one gasping for air.
Give it a century, the man is absent
The shore is no more. The water’s
Approach to tranquility til there’s no more surface to cover. It would be difficult
To hope otherwise.

Bakokak by Gerry Alanguilan & Kevin Ray Valentino
Read if you’re:
- fascinated with frogs
- curious how post apocalyptic Manila would look like (or smth like that)
Slaughterhouse Five – Kurt Vonnegut
I haven’t posted lately because I had to review for my comprehensive exams. Hopefully one step closer to finishing my MFA! 🤞
I’m currently reading Vonnegut. He’s the kind of writer I aspire to be: effortless wit, the kind of humor you reserve for your closest friends but hope that some like minded stranger would understand.
Natural History of the Senses – Diane Ackerman
Read if you’re:
– studying the physical world through a different lens
– overwhelmed by sensory response
– in need of a different kind of history lesson
Jiro the Reader
I think he understand this better than I do.

Reading Plato with an intensity that only dogs have.

Then he realizes he can’t read.

Proceeds to potate instead.
Armageddon in Retrospect – Kurt Vonnegut
Read if you’re:
– wondering about what happens in wartime
– looking for wit in weird situations
– ready to chuckle and cry in a single paragraph
–
Dekada ‘70 – Lualhati Bautista
You know why we need to read this.
Now more than ever.
Short Reads: The Writing of the God – Jorge Luis Borges
Read if you’re:
– trapped
– finding solace in words
– in love with language

Currently Reading: My Neighbor Totoro
Such an adorable start! I’ll post the reviews when I’m done. But so far, it is such a beautiful and lighthearted read.
